Latin name: Ameerega bassleri

We have multiple captive bred, unsexed subadults in stock who are all around 1” in length. Photos are representative of general stock.

General info: These beautiful frogs are active, fun to watch, and a relatively easy dart frog to care for. They live well in a community tank with others of their species.

Habitat and lifestyle: Chrome Bassleris are diurnal. They are native the Peruvian Amazon rainforest and are commonly found near streams. They hunt for small insects such as ants and beetles in the leaf litter throughout the day.

Size and lifespan: As adults males usually reach around 1.25” in length while females grow a bit larger at about 1.5” in length  Their lifespan in human care is often around 15 years with some individuals living 20+ years with optimal care.

Quick care stats:

Temperatures:  75 degrees Fahrenheit on the warm end, 70 degrees Fahrenheit on the cool end. Be careful not to let them overheat which can happen if the temperatures reach 85 degrees.

Humidity: 70%-100% Misting by hand twice daily is often required to achieve these levels and can be replaced by an automatic mist system.

Tank size: 5 gallons for babies, 20+ gallons for adults. The more floor space, the better and these frogs can be housed communally with enough space.

Tank type: Standard rectangle - allow for ample floor space.

Lighting: Both a heat pad and a dimmable heat lamp are recommended for housing this species in glass tanks. Thermostats are always helpful to prevent overheating.

Though this species lives on the shady rainforest floor, they are diurnal so 5.0 UVB lighting is is highly recommend for overall welfare and to establish a regular day/night cycle.

Substrate and furniture: . Soil or coconut fiber substrate about 2” deep. Provide lots of hiding places in the form of logs and false or live plants. Bio active terrariums are a great choice for this species if you decide to go that route. Provide a wide shallow water dish that is changed daily.

Handling: Bassleris have rather delicate frames and very sensitive skin so we don’t recommend them for handling. We advise using a sterilized deli cup or other container to move them if needed when maintaining their habitat for example.

Diet and feeding: Fruit flies and pinhead crickets should make up the majority of their diet and should be offered daily.

Always remove uneaten feeder insects if they have not been consumed after a day.

*All food items must be dusted with both vitamin and calcium powder prior to feeding.*

Food size: The feeder insect should be able to fit width-wise between your dart frog’s eyes.
