Most of the world’s well known lizard species fall into one of these two families.
Agamids are an old-world family of lizards, native primarily to Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Australia. Members include the charismatic uromastyx and the unique mountain horned dragon.
While Iguanids are a new world family of lizards who inhabit North, Central, and South America. Among these lizards are the iconic green iguana as well as the chuckwalla.
Though they are from opposite sides of the world, they share many similarities such as being active during the day, thriving in hot climates and usually being sexually dichromatic and dimorphic (males having different coloration and size than females).
